Internet Application Developer

Managed and developed Internet applications for clients in the United States and Europe. Involved in project scoping, technical resource management, programming, and media creation and editing. Currently looking for contract or permanent work architecting, prototyping, programming and interactive design of client-side and client-server RIA applications.

Virtuoz
Developed client-side implementations for Intelligent Agent Web Service in Flex, Flash and JavaScript for VirtuOz clients PayPal, H&R Block, Chegg. Was responsible for following existing templates and creating new methods to interact with flagship server application in ActionScript and JavaScript.
CBS Interactive
Developed a Facebook IFrame application for a reality TV show; was responsible for Flex 3 ActionScript, JavaScript (jQuery), PHP, and Facebook programming, including FBML, XFBML, FQL and the JS and PHP APIs. Worked with client to ensure knowledge transfer to enable staff to work with commented/documented code.
IMO Entertainment
Enabled chat / presence in Flex 3 social networking application built on Ruby On Rails, OpenFire (Jabber), using XIFF framework and custom extensions. Was responsible for ensuring continued presence monitoring without polling mechanism. Project required familiarity with Ruby and git (version control software), as well as traditional ActionScript programming in LAMP environment.
Organic Inc. : Bank of America
Developed interactive financial components for Bank of America. Responsible for developing Income and expenses module, including XML parsing and mapping, component styling using CSS and custom techniques, trigonometric calculations, audio-video-closed caption implementation, ADA-compliant key interaction and localization support through external XML assets; Flex-Flash coding and integration using existing and new, undocumented frameworks.
Frog Design
Developed Air 1.5 application with SMS/Mobile/Email/Web functionality for Fortune 500 telecommunications company. Enabled deep-link Website navigation from a System Tray application that updates from live feed. Used Flex 3 with Flash 9 interface, with third party frameworks SuperTab and Tweener. For the SuperTab component, the work was for a counterpart Website application built entirely in Flex: my involvement was skinning the component for the Web interface.
Mindjet
Developed front page splash video for English and German versions of MindJet's November 2008 release of MindManager 8, their flagship product. Project involved numerous client meetings, working with the German office for translation guidance, and a great deal of timeline animation. No ActionScript involved in the animations.
On24
Developed MXML components for Virtual Tradeshow. Used Cairngorm framework for B2B administrative functionality in Flex 3 application. My role was Flex development and bug resolution. Worked with and designed custom components, events, and design patterns in AS3 and MXML.
Eveo
Created XML-driven marketing application with video, Tweener-animated fades, blurs and placement, for Novartis FocalinXR. Developed XML-backed PDF to SWF conversion process for a dozen vaccine products for GlaxoSmithKline, as part of a larger application suite. My role was finding undocumented features in FlashPaper that enabled pixel-level placement of scrolled page to discrete positions. Used MCTween for animations, and integrated the final SWFs into a Gaia Flash Framework. Involved in brokering communication between containing application and asset swfs.
Blowtorch
Developed Red5 based video recorder, player and feed reader. My responsibilities included AS3 programming, Flex development, creating feed interfaces for multiple vendors, and researching Sandy 3D/video application development. Prototypes include dynamic mapping of videos to 3D objects.
UStream
Developed horizontal reflective thumbnail scroller using ActionScript 3 which loaded object data from AMFPHP (Flash Remoting) and called image and video feeds in response to user interaction. Was responsible for determining handshake requirements, gradient fade, exponential navigation and media functionality. The videos are served from a Flash Media Server, and all feeds are live.
Reality Digital
Developed suite of XML-based FLV players, including simple video players, video players for blogs, WebCam recording, video editing, and more. All players share a core logic swf and are configurable to support size and shape requirements, third party assets, ad tracking, and advanced functionality. Was responsible for the Flash/ActionScript programming, and client-side functionality of RD's Opus Platform. Worked with both streaming and progressive video content, on Flash Communication servers, using ASPX and Web Services. High-trafficked client sites include MTV, Atom Uploads, Lonely Planet, The Capitol Hill Broadcasting Network.
ComCast/TVWorks
Developed XML-powered fully functioning interactive TV prototypes including Call Waiting and Video on Demand. Was responsible for integrating Illustrator source art into FLV player as active overlay to video content. Developed classes for managing key input and object/function mapping, XML Object transformations, and presentation layer rendering through runtime feeds.
Guba
Developed Ajax mechanism for Add to Favorites, Ratings and Comments on content pages. I was responsible for JavaScript, CSS, XMLHttp, XHTML, and Perl widget development using Text::Template module. Developed within an Arch CVS environment.
Podshow
Developed player powered by a number of RSS/XML formats to work seamlessly across multiple domains. File types supported by the player include MP3, MP4, M4A, M4V, WMV, MOV, and others. Developed OO programming in ActionScript and JavaScript, Ajax, DTD structures, XMLRPC layer, Flash and Photoshop media creation and editing, and integrated various media files into interface. Responsible for interactive design, functionality, and cross-browser testing and support.
Nasa / Ames Research Center
Developed Event Sequencer component for Anomaly Consequence Evaluation System (ACES) for Nasa. Commissioned by the Ames Research Center, the ACES application was subsequently released to other Nasa sites (JPL, JSC, others). My role was to architect AS 2.0 class definitions, object models and associated XML/DTD structures; and implementation programming and production in Flash 8 within an XML/Ajax environment.
Miva/Comet Systems
Developed Flash application using SWFKit and C++ DLLs. My role was to program in FFish Script (SWFKit proprietary language), JavaScript, CSS and ActionScript, as well as to develop the XML/DTD structures needed for the application to work. The application makes extensive use of embedded controls for rendering HTML within a Flash environment.
Sonic Branding Solutions
Developed online and downloadable version of popular game show, Name That Tune! My responsibilities included architecting and programming in ActionScript 2.0, serializing Excel content into AS Objects, Flash, and working with custom-developed Windows APIs for accessing MIDI and local high score features.
ID Society
Developed architecture, navigation and programming for a number of websites, website components, applications and screensavers for corporate, entertainment, spirits and sports clients. Individual descriptions follow. My responsibilities included architecting and programming in ActionScript, JavaScript, CSS, XML, PHP, HTML, Director, Screentime, mProjector, and other languages and applications.
Johnnie Walker
Programmed and architected the HTML and Flash versions of the Johnnie Walker Striding Man Society website. Also developed a system-tray launched desktop application (The Keep). For the website, I developed an exploding constelation for navigating the three-tiered client-side content, as well as a CMS for enabling the client to change content on demand. Functionality for The Keep included a CMS, the ability to save links to disk, and Windows System manipulation from a Flash interface.
March of Dimes
March of Dimes wanted a timeline-based view of the company's history, to feature video, image, audio and text support. I programmed the Flash and XML used for the content, as well as converting the audio and video files for Flash usage.
Crown Royal
Developed the Flash and DHTML navigation for the Crown Royal website, as well as creating individual Flash content areas. Highlights include the recipes page which the client updates regularly through an accompanying CMS.
Lifetime TV
Lifetime TV has used the Map of Hope, an interactive Breast Cancer awareness application that I developed, for a second annual month-long awareness campaign. Using both client-side Flash functionality and server-side MySQL/PHP, the application features an interactive world map that enables users to connect with others and to post bulletin board remarks for others.
The Spector Group
Rearchitected the current site to enable a Flash-PHP powered CMS. Complex navigation and animation were recreated using a method to support dynamic content. Original site built in Flash 4 was updated to a Flash 6 Object model base. Both CMS and website use the same object models, enabling quick updates and simple forward migration.
USA Network
Developed navigation logic, Action Script, CSS and JavaScript programming, and CMS integration of XML content. The site design was live from March 2004 until their rebranding in July/August 2005.
Baltimore Ravens
Developed a dynamic screensaver for the 2003 and 2004 Ravens seasons. The second season was updated dynamically and required no additional programming beyond the changing of XML source files. My responsibilities were programming ActionScript, XML, Screentime, and supporting software.
Olive Media
Created DHTML and ColdFusion templates for insound. My responsibilities included following existing structures, and integrating enhanced client functionality. Technologies used were ColdFusion, RealPlayer, and JavaScript.
Music Hall 2000
Developed applications using Flash, ActiveX, ASP, XML, and JavaScript technologies. My responsibilities were ActionScript and JavaScript programming, DTD and XML structure and programming, ASP and client-server integration. The applications were developed for Internet Explorer and as stand alone programs.
Pearson Publishing
Developed a range of components to enable distance-learning language courses. Among these are a Shockwave component - utilizing Quicktime, DirectFTP, AudioXtra, and the XML Xtra - that enables users to listen to native speakers and record their pronunciation and responses directly in the browser, then upload audio files to an FTP server; a Generator component that integrates existing database assets with a Flash 5 drag-and-drop association test; a Shockwave component that records information from an HTML form on to the client PC without using cookies; and others. The system uses JSP and XML extensively. My responsibilities were DTD creation and enhancements; XML, Lingo, SQL, Generator, ActionScript, HTML, and JavaScript programming; and attending client meetings as a technical advisor.
The Fantastic Corporation
Developed client and server components to XML-based broadband content platform. I was responsible for developing and implementing XML, including DTD structures, XSL, JavaScript, and DHTML. The XSL was used to generate JavaScript objects, rather than HTML output. The same XML structure was then used to support both Flash 5 and Director 8 applications, for which I provided a structural implementation.
Electronic Hollywood
Created a database-driven e-card site for Electronic Hollywood. My responsibilities included database design, SQL, MySQL, PHP, HTML, and JavaScript programming.
Facing Facts
Developed a network kiosk using iMac clients and a Macintosh server. Technologies used were Director, XML/XSL, ASP, JavaScript, CuSeeMe, Timbuktu, and AppleScript. The client is an employment agency and the kiosks are located in universities throughout Holland. In addition to the standalone application, I developed the XSL framework to enable their corporate website to share XML content.
Cartes Pour Enfants
Provided project management, information and database design, MySQL, PHP, JavaScript, and Flash programming and integration for French and English versions. Developed database-driven postcard site on Linux 5.2 server for Mac/PC IE/Communicator 4+ browser clients with Flash 4 plugin. Included several features not supported by technology vendors, including non-English character support and custom parsing methods for passing information between client and server components of Internet application.
Ericsson PowerMix Client-Server Music Game
Heavy involvement in all phases. Project management, Database, SQL, ColdFusion, JavaScript, Lingo, Beatnik, and Flash programming and integration for Ericsson telephone launch. Recommended and implemented technologies. Brought the technical achievement to the attention of Beatnik, the technology partner.
BFM Tonebeeld
Duties included project management, programming, and employee training. At BFM I worked on over a dozen multilingual sites in a primarily Dutch-speaking office. Software and technologies I used include ColdFusion, JavaScript, Lingo, HTML, Access, Photoshop, Flash, and others. Techniques I introduced to the company include Object-Oriented Design and Programming, and integration of ColdFusion with JavaScript.
Headlight - Financial Competence
Six part online education course. Each part had five to twelve sections; each section had three to thirty screens; total of 600+ screens. Existing Authorware application needed to be deconstructed, then recreated using cross-browser Dynamic HTML with ASP integration. Session management was handled by both client and server programming design. Roles included project management, JavaScript, and HTML programming. The course featured sequenced animations, drag-and-drop functionality, and extensive object programming. This link is no longer active, but a demonstration can be provided of its functionality.
Object-Oriented Design article
The article came from an idea that had been kicking around in my head for a while. Netscape liked the idea, came up with an appropriate title, and a day later, an article was born.
Veon Presentation - Herring on Hollywood
Roles included feasibility assessment, Lingo and Veon VActive proprietary programming. A prototype of interactive television with a scrolling channel selector was created for the Herring on Hollywood conference. Several videos, including sports and B52 music video, had hyperlinks in them. In addition to standard hyperlinking, Lingo functionality was accessed through Veon's open architecture.
